Add Support for RHEL8 for Jetbackup v4

Raisul Mushfeq shared this idea 3 years ago
Under Consideration

Jetbackup has removed some backup destinations on Jetbackup V5. For those of us who still need those destinations and features, Jetbackup 4 is a must. But unfortunately, it is not currently supported for RHEL8 yet. It would be great if support for RHEL8 (cloudlinux8 for example) would be added.

Thanks

Hello Raisul,

Thank you for your feedback and for opening up a feature request! We will be reviewing your request and provide updates accordingly. Please note that we utilize the voting system to gauge demand for new features. The more votes a request has, the more likely it will be up for consideration by our developers.

For clarification, what are the specific Destination Types you are looking to use on JetBackup 4 that is not currently available on JetBackup 5? We would love to pass this information to our developers to help gauge the demand for new Destinations on JetBackup 5.

Best Regards,

Richard, JetApps Team.

Jetbackup 5 does not have a google drive backup destination yet. We use this destination on almost all of our servers. That is why jetbackup 4 is needed until jetbackup 4 supports google drive.

Thanks

Hello Raisul,

Thank you for your additional feedback. We understand that Google Drive is a highly requested Destination Type for JetBackup and I would like to note that there is an open feature request to add Google Drive as a supported destination type in JetBackup 5. You can find this request here: https://request.jetapps.com/topic/532-jetbackup-5-google-drive-destination

All new destination types on JetBackup 5 will utilize the brand new indexing engine which is still currently experimental. Once our developers stabilize the indexing engine they may begin further development on new destination types for JetBackup 5. Please use the linked request for further updates

With that being said, I will update the developers with your feedback and allow them to provide further updates. If you have any questions in the meantime, please feel free to reach out to our support team at support@jetapps.com.

Thank you,

Richard, JetApps Team

A massive vote up for this feature request.

We use JetBackup to exclusively backup cPanel servers and JB4 works seamlessly.

We have used JB5 on a small number of servers running RHEL8/AlmaLinux and it's made the backup and restore process an incredibly clunky task that I have no faith in.

If you try to restore accounts on a server with a different IP address to that on which the backup was taken the websites wont work because JB5 doesn't update the DNS zones to point to the correct IP, restorations of suspended accounts will fail, some accounts wont restore for seemingly unknown reasons and so on.

Making JB4 available for RHEL8 would allow us to continue to use JB on cPanel servers but unless things change we will be moving to alternative backup software on our RHEL8 cPanel servers as JB5 is far too buggy and shows no sign of improving.

Hello Dan T,

Just to provide an update on the DNS Zones restore issue, in the upcoming JetBackup 5.3.0 release we have made improvements to our DNS parsing system. This will allow for DNS Zones to be properly restored which will allow our team to address this issue of the server pointing to the original IP address post-restore. We are currently targeting an EDGE release for JetBackup 5.3.0 in Q1 of 2023. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to reach out at support@jetapps.com.

Thank you,

JetApps Team
