Provide "Restore to custom directory"

Gathering Feedback

Right now only 2 options are available on restore: Use original directory or download.

But is is really useful to be able to provide a custom directory and do the restore there.

A typical and frequent request is to restore some selected files to a custom directory in order to compare contents.

Download is not always an option, because some restored files might take several GB.

For example, someone needs a database dump 3 days ago to compare some data with the current database. This dump might be GB and downloading and reuploading is really a problem.

Of get a config file as it was 5 days ago, to compare some configuration changes that has been done.

Thank you.

Hello TSInfo,

Thank you for opening a feature request and providing your detailed use case for this feature. To clarify, all downloads generated in JetBackup 5 are stored in the downloads folder located here: `/usr/local/jetapps/usr/jetbackup5/downloads/` so you should have access to all downloads at the admin level within the server without having to download and reupload.

To provide a bit of insight, we received feedback about storing downloads generated at the user-level outside of each account/user's home directory in order to prevent user-generated downloads from counting towards their storage quotas, hence we opted to store all downloads at this location instead of storing them under each account/user's home directory.

With that said, we will review your request to have the option to store user-generated downloads under a custom location within their corresponding home directory when desired and provide updates accordingly as we continue to gather more feedback and votes. We use the voting system to gauge demand for additional features. The more votes a request has, the more likely it will be up for consideration by our developers.

Thank you,

The JetApps Team

Hi,

thank you for your detailed reply.

just a note: On quota enabled mountpoints, quotas are counted based on user/group. So if the restored files inside the custom dir are root owned as they are now (with read permmissiong for the user), they will not count on user quota.

Thank you again.
