Allow SSH Key with passphrase for SSH destinations
In Progress - Needs Feedback
JetBackup currently doesn't provide a way to protect data from ransomware attacks. If someone were to get root access on the cPanel server, they would be able to SSH to the backup server and wipe out (or encrypt) the backups.
I am purposing setting a passphrase on a SSH keys, which would be encrypted within the JB database. That way, if someone were to get root, they would still need to decrypt the JB database to get the passphrase.
Hello Everyone,
Thank you for your continued patience! With the release of JetBackup v5.3.3 to the ALPHA Tier, we are excited to announce that we have added a new SFTP to JetBackup 5! This new destination plugin utilizes our new and improved Backup and Indexing Engine and adds support for Passphrase protected SSH Keys.
Please note that the use of our SFTP Destination plugin is still considered experimental as we continue to push updates to increase its stability, efficiency, and versatility.
Below is an image of the Create New Destination screen with the new SFTP Destination Plugin and support for Passphrase protected SSH Keys:
Please note that the new SFTP plugin utilizes our new backup and indexing engine as mentioned above. With this in mind, backups generated from the previous SSH plugin are not compatible with this new plugin. JetBackup 5 will generate a separate set of backups with this new plugin and will be stored as objects on your destination instead of files.
We thank you for your patience and are eager to hear your feedback regarding this new feature!
Best Regards,
