Enable Support for Shared Drives in Google Drive Locations

Under Consideration

Problem Statement:

  • Currently, JetBackup's Google Drive locations rely on URLs to directories, limiting their functionality to personal drives.
  • Shared drives, which offer enhanced collaboration and permissions management, are not supported, hindering their usefulness for businesses and teams.

Proposed Solution:

  • Replace URL-based destination identification with shared drive IDs.
  • When configuring a Google Drive location, allow users to input the unique ID of a shared drive.
  • Utilize this ID to authenticate and access the shared drive, enabling seamless backup and restore operations.

Benefits:

  • Enhanced collaboration: Shared drives facilitate teamwork by allowing multiple users to access and contribute to the same files.
  • Improved permissions management: Granular control over who can view, edit, and share files within shared drives.
  • Increased flexibility: Support for shared drives expands the applicability of JetBackup for businesses and organizations that rely on collaborative workflows.
