You already have the ability to store backups in Amazon AWS S3, but it seems that you can't use alternatives to Amazon which support the S3 protocol, which should be a minor change to what you already have.
Services like OpenStack are widely used to offer object storage which is S3 compatible. For example OVH public cloud - at a price which is far less than Amazon offers.
